Texas International was a US domestic airline flying scheduled domestic services serving the Texas area.
Local hub operations were flown with Convair 600 twins

A Native of Texas, I grew up with this airline and was sad when it was purchased by Continental Airlines in the 1980's. I used to fly on the DC-9's with my parents, when we would visit relatives during summer vacations. The Douglas DC-9 design developed eventually developed into the McDonnell-Douglas MD"Super 90" and finally the Boeing B717 when the company was acquired by Boeing. I believe it was in 1997.

A much larger and re-engined variant, known as the DC-9 Super 80, appeared in the early 1980s but was redesignated the MD-80 following the merger of Douglas with McDonnell. Between 1965 and 1982, a total of 976 DC-9s were built, and many remain in service having been upgraded to meet new noise regulations.

Thirty years after beginning operations and more than a decade after the final aircraft rolled off the assembly line, DC-9s remain a mainstay in many airlines, still building a worldwide reputation for reliability and durability unmatched by any other aircraft. The fleet makes more than 3,500 flights per day, with each aircraft averaging more than five hours of revenue service daily.
